Yu, what?

Several big names will be taking an early flight home, including Morozevich, Radjabov and Ivanchuk. Half the matches are still undecided and will require play-offs.

The top two seeds (Gelfand and Gashimov) won today and go into the third round to be played on Friday. Peter Svidler managed to win (after yesterday's debacle) and so lives to fight another day, that means tomorrow when the rapidplay tie-breaks are scheduled.

The big surprise of the round is the elimination of so many household names, particularly seeds 4-6 Morozevich (losing to Laznicka), Radjabov (to Sakaev) and Ivanchuk to young Phillipines whizz-kid Wesley So.

Indeed many of the lesser lights held their more illustrious opponents, so that as many as 16 of the 32 matches will go to the third day, including the sole woman survivor Judit Polgar's match against Nisipeanu.

The most surprising name already in the third round is Yu Yangyi (only rated a modest 2527, but at 15-years-old still has time to improve it!) who won again!

Follow tomorrow's tie-breaks and get hold of more details on the

official site

The temperature is dropping outside the venue but definitely rising inside!

Will any of the matches last longer than the 9-7 (Akobian-Tregubov) of the first round? Find out tomorrow!
