Svidler in the Final

Only one hurdle to go for Peter Svidler
Peter Svidler sacrificed the exchange for a pawn and good pieces. His mobile queenside pawns advanced up the board and Ruslan Ponomariov just couldn't stop them going the whole way. In a tense struggle against Vassily Ivanchuk, Alexander Grischuk had to give up his queen, but his remaining pieces were able to set-up a blockade. This match will be decided in the tie-breaks tomorrow. Both players have been in form in Rapidplay so far in Khanty Mansiysk, so there is no obvious favourite.
