Karjakin catches Carlsen

A cool display from Sergey Karjakin led to today's only victory. He now is in equal first with Magnus Carlsen on 4/6 a whole point ahead of Hikaru Nakamura in third place.

The pre-round leader, Magnus Carlsen comfortably equalized with Hikaru Nakamura in the Breyer Variation of the Spanish. The game became rather blocked and the repetition occurred in a balanced position.

Teimour Radjabov reacted rather timidly against Vassily Ivanchuk's Semi-Tarrasch and obtained no real advantage. Later both players manoeuvred for quite some time but couldn't make any headway.

Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu sacrificed a couple of pawns for a dangerous initiative. However Sergey Karjakin rode the storm and walked his king to the queenside. The double-rook ending a pawn up eventually led to a win for the young Russian (who was formerly playing under the Ukrainian flag).
