In the game Carlsen had such a good edge from the opening that the world team sacrificed a pawn and thus obtained some temporary play. True, once the Norwegian had won a pawn he had to be careful not to let the opposing team back into the game, but still overall Magnus Carlsen kept control. The World team consisted of three GMs, Hikaru Nakamura (USA), Judith Polgar (Hungary) and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France) who made suggestions upon which the public voted. The problem for the allies was that their play lacked consistency, a predictable result of 'too many cooks in the kitchen' as Judit Polgar so aptly mentioned afterwards!
The site had problems coping with the traffic as the event was particularly popular with chess fans around the world.
