Leon 2011

Viswanathan Anand
The annual Léon masters in Spain takes place from the 3rd-5th of June 2011. A draw in the first game, followed by an explosive attacking display by the World champion were on display on the first day. So Anand leads Shirov 1.5-0.5 with four games to go over the next two days.

In the first game Shirov pressed Anand's Caro-Kann, but the Indian GM held firm.

Game two involved the sharp Anti-Moscow Gambit where White sacrifices the c4-pawn for activity.

Vishwanathan Anand went to to beat Alexei Shirov in a delightful attacking game after sacrificing one knight (refused) and then later on his other knight, both of which were justified due to Black's vulnerable king.

The games are 60' plus 30" per move. One characteristic of the series of matches in Léon is that the players have access to computers during their games. This particularity is referred to as Advanced chess.
