Anatoly Karpov

Anatoly Karpov Yevgenyevich, born May 23, 1951 at Zlatoust, Chelyabinsk Oblast in the USSR, is a Russian Grandmaster and former World champion. He played ten World Championship finals from 1978 to 1998 and is one of the biggest winners in the history of the game with over 160 first places, alone or tied, in tournament or team competitions to his credit.

Karpov is also a prominent philatelist, and his Russia and the Soviet Union collection is the third largest in the world.
