Ivanchuk beats Radjabov

Vassily Ivanchuk
Vassily Ivanchuk broke through on the kingside and his attack proved to be too hot to handle. A set back for Teimour Radjabov who seemed to be doing OK for most of the game. The other three games were drawn after each of the players with the Black pieces equalized comfortably.

Ivanchuk's win over Radjabov was by far the most interesting game of the day. Both sides had strong squares for their pieces in a position of dynamic imblance. However Radjabov played too ambitiously by pushing his g-pawn, and this provoked Ivanchuk to switch to attacking mode. The complications panned out in White's favour, as the Azerbaijani player just couldn't get his pieces organized in order to avoid Ivanchuk's tricky tactics.

Here are the results:

Match 1:

Judit Polgar rapidly organized a piece sacrifice to take a perpetual check.
