Two draws, but only just!
Vladimir Kramnik: Won a pawn, but not the game
Vladimir Kramnik was definitely better but, as in his match with Aronian, Alexander Grischuk defended resolutely and held on. Boris Gelfand was also creating problems for his opponent, and may even have missed a win, but Gata Kamsky scraped the draw.
So going into the week-end both matches are all-square at 1-1.
In an unusual line of the English Opening, White's pressure led to the win of a pawn, but Grischuk had an excellent blockading knight and this (along with a flashy combination!) enabled him to mount a successful defence.
