Legends celebrate the legend!

Viktor Korchnoi
Viktor Korchnoi won the seniors event in Suzdal, Russia earlier this week. These ten players had all played against Botvinnik, and many of them were amongst the strongest in the world in the sixties and seventies. The legendary Viktor Korchnoi goes on and on, and his love for chess never seems to diminish, despite him passing his eightieth birthday.

A particularity of this four-day rapid event (15th to 18th of August) was that the arbiter, Yuri Averbakh, is himself a legend in the chess world. Apparently the endgame specialist is at present the oldest-living GM in the world.
